TRAINING GROUPS

Club night is Tuesday evening with groups of various abilities as below, setting off between 7.00pm and 7.30pm.

To be able to cope with even the basic training you should be able to run 4 miles in 50 minutes. If you are not yet at this level have a look at the advice for beginners at the Serpentine Running Club website or the Runner's World website.

Our current groups are as follows:-

Marc's group - 7.00pm start
8-10 miles, sometimes fartlek, suitable for runners capable of 1.25 for a half marathon. The winter monthly training rota is as follows:-

Week 1 - Hill session at Kirkstall (The Normans); Week 2 - Long fartlek to Pudsey; Week 3 - Short fartlek to Adel; Week 4 - Hill session at Calverley; Week 5 - 800m intervals at Lawnswood

All are welcome but please note that these sessions can be intense. If we find that they are too fast for some then we will form two groups so that everyone can benefit from the workout.

Angus's group - 7.30pm
Usually a longer steady paced run, suitable for runners capable of 1.30 for a half marathon. Sometimes merges with Marc's group, dependent upon demand.

Martin's group - 7.30pm
Fairly challenging runs which may include a mixture of different types of speedwork sessions. Normally around 7 to 10 miles in length. Suitable for anyone who can run a 10k in 40 to 48 minutes and is either looking to get faster or just fancies pushing themselves on a run.

Tina's group - 7.30pm
Aimed at runners trying to get under 50 minutes for a 10k. Between 5 and 10 miles, always specified before setting off, more often than not structured, hills/speedwork/tempo. Caters for mixed abilities therefore always regroups so you can make it as challenging as you like.

During January, February, March and April 2010 Tina's group will be doing the following training:- First Tuesday in month - hill session; second Tuesday - will vary; third Tuesday - 8 mile with 6 mile tempo (out and back route with turnarounds for those wanting a shorter run); fourth Tuesday - speedwork (efforts ranging from 1/4 mile to 1 mile); fifth Tuesday (subject to there being one)- hilly run.

Hilary's group - 7.30pm
This is an easy paced group for new runners who have done some running on their own and want to run with a group, to keep fit, improve, enjoy racing and perhaps progress to running for one of the club teams, whatever they choose. Hilary can cater for runners who can do 12 minute miles or faster, so you need to be able to run 4 miles in 50 minutss or less. The runs are between 5 and 6 miles with short stops every mile or so with a few optional challenges for people who are improving and wanting to move up to a faster group. The route is described before leaving the clubhouse, everyone is encouraged and nobody is left behind. Hilary looks forward to meeting you.
