Races
A popular local race organised by Horsforth Harriers.
The Apperley Bridge Canter (ABC) is Horsforth Harriers’ much‑loved flagship race and a highlight of the local running calendar. Now into its 20th year, the event has grown into a popular fixture across Yorkshire, attracting runners from a wide range of clubs as well as unaffiliated athletes.
Held on the Thursday of May half-term week from Woodhouse Grove School, the race offers a scenic evening “canter” through Apperley Bridge and Horsforth. The multi-terrain course covers approximately 10–10.5 kilometres and combines trails, tracks and quiet back roads, giving runners a true multi‑terrain experience. The route is undulating, mixing fast sections with short climbs.
What sets the ABC apart is the unique club atmosphere we create. The race showcases the strength of the club community, with large numbers of members volunteering as marshals and helpers on the day. We aim to create a warm welcome at race HQ, enthusiastic support out on the course and a sociable post-race atmosphere.
Entries generally open early in the new year, via RaceBest. See Race Information below.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered for the ABC race. 2026 was another tremendous success with great feedback from participants. Volunteering is not only a great way to help raise club funds but also a brilliant way to meet other club members and to enjoy the race atmosphere without raising your heart rate too high! We cannot guarantee the weather, but it is normally a lovely sunny evening - and the cakes for sale to raise money for MNDA are always delicious!
This year we raised a fantastic £562 for MNDA through cake sales and donations.
Planning for the following May starts again later this year. If you have any questions about volunteering, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
