Races
Team relay events the club participates in throughout the year.
Horsforth Harriers take part in four relays every year. Two of these are longer distance relays. And two are over shorter distances. These events are great fun, and whilst we have a great record placing at these events, it’s as much about camaraderie and being part of a big event as a pair or team, rather than running on your own! The relays (especially the long ones) are a great way of discovering new routes and exploring Yorkshire countryside you may never know existed!
The club pays the entry fees for the relays, and all competitive members (must be a full member) are invited to take part. The Men’s and Ladies’ captains will advertise the relays via Facebook and email – you just have to let them know you’re interested. We enter as many full teams as we can.

This usually takes place in June and is organised by the Saltaire Striders. It has 5 legs of 8-11 miles each, and each leg must be run as a pair. It follows the Bradford Millenium way circular path, starting and returning to Bingley, taking in Wilsden, Denholme, Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth, Steeton, Silsden, Addingham and Ilkley.
One of the short relays, this event takes place on the Chevin in July and is organised by Horsforth Fellandale Running club. Over 100 diiferent teams take part, and there’s a fantastic atmosphere. As a club we enter lots of teams each year. This relay is a 3-leg relay and each leg (which is the same for each runner) is just under 3 miles. Don’t let the hills put you off – see them as a challenge!
Taking place at the Arthington Road end of this lovely local park usually later in July, this is another short leg relay consisting of 3 legs. This one is a particular favourite with the Harriers. In 2025, we entered a record 27 teams! Organised by Abbey Runner, this relay is great fun (even in biblical rain!) . There’s a junior relay first which is a great way to feel inspired before you run!
Rounding off the Relay Calendar usually on the first weekend of Spetember, this is another long relay, following the route of the Leeds Country Way. Leg 4 takes you through our home turf of Horsforth where there is always some extra cheers en route by local Harriers not taking part! This relay is run in pairs, and has six legs, starting and finishing in Garforth. Each leg ranges from 9-11 miles in distance and is organised each year by the Kippax Harriers.
