Yorkshire Vets

Yorkshire Veteran Athletes Association cross country and road races for over-35s.

About

For those new, or not so new, runners looking to dip their toes into the world of ‘competitive’ racing, the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix is the ideal opportunity for a gentle introduction. It also gives you the satisfaction of representing your club and the chance to wear your Horsforth Harriers running vest with pride!

The league is an inter-club, team competition between all the best running clubs in the area. All the races are fairly local and hosted by regional running clubs.

The best thing about these events is the camaraderie and team spirit before, during and after the races. You will be made very welcome, whatever your speed, because everyone from first to last scores points for the team. So it really is “the more the merrier” and results have been known to be decided by a few points, because a team had maybe one extra runner. This is one of the reasons we are always seeking more team members!

*Please note:
If you are 33 or 34 you can run as a non-scorer, not eligible for prizes. If you are under age 33 you are no longer able to run in a Vets Grand Prix race.

Key Information

  • The league is for runners aged 35 and over, but you can run as a guest if you’re 33 or 34.
  • It is run from Spring to Autumn and there are usually about 10 races, either held at the weekend or on evenings over the summer.
  • All entrants need a club vest, which are available from Louise.
  • The races are not long, usually about 5 miles, although some are a little hilly!
  • Entry costs £10 for your first race, which covers the cost of your race number with timing chip, then £6.75 for subsequent races (or £6 if you pre-enter additional races when you register). Alternatively, you can register without entering a race for £4, and then pay £6.75 to enter races individually later.
  • Most races can be done in road shoes, though with our inclement weather they can be a bit muddy/slippery so a pair of trail shoes may be advisable.
  • You just turn up and register on the day and will be given a race number which you keep for the series. You can do all the races, or just a few if you prefer.
